NEW ROUTES HOME

COMING HOME
New Routes Home is a national network hosted by In Control Scotland that brings together people with lived experience, families, support providers, housing organisations, practitioners, commissioners and policy leaders who share a commitment to the Coming Home vision.
The network was created to support learning, collaboration and action towards a Scotland where people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex support needs can live good lives in their own homes, close to the people and communities that matter to them.
By connecting people from across the system, New Routes Home helps to share ideas, spread learning and support change at both local and national levels.
WHAT WE DO
New Routes Home creates opportunities for people to come together, learn from one another and influence change.
Through our work we:
-
Host national networks and learning spaces
-
Share learning, resources and good practice
-
Amplify lived experience and family perspectives
-
Support collaboration across sectors
-
Highlight innovative approaches and practical solutions
-
Influence policy and practice through collective learning
THE NETWORKS
New Routes Home is built around three connected networks: a Practitioners and Professionals Network, a Lived and Loved Experience Network, and a Collective Network that brings everyone together. By creating dedicated spaces alongside opportunities for collective learning, the networks help people share experiences, build relationships, explore challenges and work together towards the goals of Coming Home.
RESOURCES AND LEARNING
We have developed a growing range of resources to support people and organisations working towards the aims of Coming Home. These include reports, learning resources, case studies and practical tools designed to support reflection, innovation and change.
DEMONSTRATING WHAT'S POSSIBLE
Alongside our learning and influencing work, New Routes Home is supporting practical action through an innovative demonstrator project focused on strengthening partnerships between housing and adult social care. The project is delivered in partnership with Housing Options Scotland and IMPACT (Improving Adult Care Together) and aims to improve outcomes for people with learning disabilities and autistic people who are at risk of delayed discharge, inappropriate placements or institutional care.
Working alongside a local host area, the demonstrator is testing new ways of bringing housing and social care together earlier in the decision-making process. By exploring practical solutions, gathering evidence and sharing learning, the project aims to ensure that people have greater opportunities to live in homes that reflect their rights, aspirations and long-term goals.
Learning from the demonstrator will help inform local and national conversations about the changes needed to create better housing and support options, strengthen collaboration across sectors and make the vision of Coming Home a reality for more people.
